Diamond Guide - your guide to help you choose the perfect diamond

Purchasing a diamond can be an overwhelming experience, especially for a first time buyer. It is therefore important that you have some understanding of a diamond and the characteristics that influence its appearance and price, before you make a purchase.

Diamonds are graded by their four main characteristics; cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight. These characteristics are known as the 4C’s and they are universally used to help determine a diamond's quality and to help you easily compare two or more diamonds.  Having a basic understanding of the 4Cs will help you make an informed decision when choosing the right diamond for you or your partner. Find out more about the 4C’s.

Diamonds also have other characteristics such as polish, symmetry and fluorescence. You can read the advanced diamond guide to find out more about these. It worth noting that the effect of these characteristics on a diamond's quality and price is far lower than that of the 4C's.

GIA Certified Diamonds

Diamonds in Africa only offers diamonds that are certified and have been graded by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). GIA's grading is recognized internationally and throughout the diamond and jewellery industry, as the most accurate and unbiased opinion when it comes to grading diamonds. Each diamond is delivered with its own unique report which can be viewed online before making a purchase. Read more about GIA certified diamonds and why we only choose them, on our GIA certified diamonds page.

Ethically Sourced Diamonds

At Diamonds in Africa we only offer you ethically sourced diamonds that have been graded by the GIA. Since the inception of the Kimberley Process, less than 1% of the diamonds on the market are now "conflict diamonds". We take every measure to ensure all of our diamonds are ethically sourced by only choosing socially and environmentally responsible mines. These mines are located in countries at peace where the revenue of diamond trade is reinvested into the development of infrastructure, schools and hospitals. These countries include Australia, Botswana, Canada, Namibia, Russia, South Africa and Tanzania.

In addition to monitoring our sources we are also passionate about giving back and therefore invest profits from every sale into our own charitable cause: Bite Size Education.

Bite Size is a innovative educational solution that leverages mobile phone communication to help education and empower people in Africa. Find out more at the Bite Size Edu website.
