The DIA Diamond Prices

The highly competitive prices of diamonds on are determined by several factors, including both external market conditions and the availability of stock from our suppliers.

With over 75,000 diamonds to choose from, Diamonds In Africa have created a significant amount of availability to ensure that all our diamond prices are both competitive and in some cases, the best price you will find on the internet.

Generally, the price of a diamond is determined by the Four C's, which include: cut, colour, clarity and carat (the diamond weight).

Not only does a larger carat lead to a higher diamond price, but those diamonds that are colourless (D, E, and F), with a clarity of few or no inclusions (FL, IF, and VVS) and with an excellent cut will also have a higher value than those that are yellow, with many inclusions and a poor cut.

However, a diamond's price may also be significantly affected by the grading laboratory that certified it as well as its other characteristics, such as symmetry, polish and fluorescence.

Typically a GIA-graded (Gemological Institute of America) diamond will have a price higher than that of a similar diamond that has been graded by a laboratory of lesser standing. In addition to this, the prices of diamonds are affected by the following characteristics:

  • An excellent symmetry will lead to a much higher diamond price than a poor symmetry.
  • An excellent polish will also lead to a higher price.
  • A diamond with no fluorescence will also have a higher price than a diamond with a strong fluorescence.

Finally, as mentioned above, the prices of diamonds are affected by supply and demand. As shown by the diagram below, diamond prices have only been increasing over the past 50 years; with a significantly greater rate of increase over the past 10 years.

The increase in the demand for diamonds in countries such as India and China is likely to lead to diamond prices increasing further in the near future.

At Diamonds in Africa, our diamond prices are significantly more competitive than those of jewellery stores and among online retailers, our diamonds often carry the best price.

We encourage our customers to find a diamond they like, print out its details and then shop around. Please remember that to compare two diamonds you will need to make sure that not only do they have the same 4C's, but that their grading lab, symmetry, polish and fluorescence are the same as well.
